WHAT IS YOUR NAME?

Kyle Jack

WHAT YEAR WERE YOU A CAP TEAM MEMBER?

2015 to 2016

TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER PATH SINCE LEAVING THE CAP TEAM.

Since leaving the CAP team, I gained enough valuable job experience to apply it towards a career with BC Corrections.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT JOB TITLE?

Corrections Officer

WHAT WERE YOUR CAREER GOALS WHEN YOU STARTED WITH THE CAP TEAM?

To learn about Kamloops and what it had to offer as I had moved here from the coast. I also wanted to develop my social skills and meet the community. Lastly I wanted to provide a sense of security for the downtown people and businesses by creating a presence and a desire for safety.

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR EXPERIENCE ON THE CAP TEAM HELPED YOU ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS?

By constantly taking me out of my comfort zone and testing me, it helped with my confidence in public speaking and maturity. The staff meetings provided many challenges to test me and push me, which I found very beneficial.

WHAT WAS THE MOST VALUABLE SKILL LEARNED ON THE JOB?

I would say developing my social skills with members of the public as well as getting a better understanding of the lower class demographic. The rapport I had built with them helped better myself with my current career.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE PROGRAM?

My favorite part of the program would have to be being apart of the downtown events such as Christmas parades, Zombie walks, etc. I also enjoyed meeting new businesses and helping market them and making the public aware.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER CURRENT AND FUTURE CAP TEAM MEMBERS?

If you like getting into shape with long bike rides, or getting to know your city a lot better then this is the job for you. It is very beneficial for someone looking to pursue a career in law enforcement, marketing, business, or tourism. Soak up all the knowledge the CAP team can offer you and apply it towards a future career.

Our CAP Team is one of the KCBIA’s key programs. Since starting the program in 2004, we have had over 90 youth participate in the program. We are proud of what our CAP Team Members have achieved and wanted to share their successes and how being a part of such a great program helped them throughout their career. The Where Are They Now Series gives you a chance to catch up with past CAPies and see what they are up to!
